NSW Department of Education

The NSW Department of Education including schools and community education settings (The department), is committed to improving the educational outcomes and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students so that they excel and achieve in every aspect of their education and training.

We are committed to increasing knowledge and understanding of the histories, cultures and experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as the First Peoples of Australia.

The Branyi Bayann Niiringal program, named through a combination of the Dharug, Bundjalung and Wiradjuri people’s languages, meaning Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow has been created in support of our commitment.

The program developed in partnership with NSW Aboriginal communities and NSW Aboriginal Consultative Group, guides students and teachers through the process of engaging with local communities to explore, create and publish stories around significant Aboriginal sites.

Students supported by teachers are invited to publish digital images and information accurately and respectfully through local community consultation and approval, upon the Storylines website.
